How to Work from Home and Gain Greater Results

The point of this post is to give you some of my thoughts about how to work out of the house. It is a completely different mindset working out of your house instead of your office or place of business. And now that we are in this quarantine, working from home is more important. It requires teams and people to find ways to keep working like video calls and telecommute.

So, I wanted to give you some thoughts and ideas of what that transition can look like from a mental standpoint and also from a practical standpoint. I want to talk about the top five effective ways to work from home.

1. Treat It Like Work

You have to treat working from home like you’re actually going to work. So, that means you need to wake up at a certain time frame. You shouldn’t make an excuse and roll out of bed whenever it seems fit. The best practice would be to wake up at the same time you were waking up earlier. You can even use the free time to learn new things. Read that book, listen to that podcast, focus on self-development, and more!

2. Daily Outcome

You need to set your daily outcomes and go achieve them. As soon as you wake up, you need to know in your head what you are going to achieve that day. It makes your brain alert and sets it on a mission mode. Otherwise, it would just wander around and distract you rather than serving you. It can happen that you might fail some days, but you just need to push harder on the others.

3. Eliminate Distractions

This stems from the previous point. There are many distractions throughout the house and you need to eliminate them. It could be as simple as your refrigerator. If you have kids you can tell them to not disturb you when you are working. They might only be able to come to you if it is something really important. Social media is another big distraction. You need to get rid of it as well.

4. Accountability

You have to keep yourself accountable to be able to do give your 100%. You have to be accountable to yourself, your family, the people you serve, your team, your superiors, everybody. This builds discipline and you will have no choice but to get work done in an effective and efficient manner. You can even find creative ways to keep yourself accountable.

5. Optimize Technology

Technology can be your great friend to help you with your work. If you take a lot of calls usually, you can get a pair of earphones and talk that way. It will allow you to multitask. You might work in the kitchen at the same time or just take a walk around the house for your physical health. Little things like these can go a long way in helping you do great work from your home.
